Parent Consultation & Coaching

Ready for strategies tailored to your child?

Parents, I see you at your wit’s end, tired of trying all the different tips and advice that every popular parenting book or expert has suggested…

...THAT JUST DON’T WORK FOR YOUR CHILD.

It’s defeating to see your child struggle despite the love and support you provide daily. If you’re at a loss for what to do next, I’m here to help.

You’re doing your best

But the early childhood years are a whirlwind! Kids are going through rapid developmental changes and learning new things everyday. You can’t be expected to know what to do at every turning point.

You’ve read positive parenting books and research, taken popular courses from well-known experts, and tried all the tips you’ve seen on social media. You’ve learned a lot — but what do you do when the strategies you’re trying don’t work with your child?

You’re left with questions that books and social media don’t answer. Questions like:

  • How can I help my child learn to listen to instructions?

  • What’s the right way to respond to negative behavior?

  • How do I respond when I give my child choices and they still don’t choose?

  • How can I work with my child to improve compliance with baths, teeth brushing, nap time, and bedtime? These things are a constant fight and cause escalating behaviors in our house.

  • How do I help my child deal with "no" or when things don’t go their way?

  • What are appropriate and effective discipline and consequences for a toddler?

  • How can I de-escalate my child’s tantrums? They tend to spiral out of control.

  • How can I decrease the frequency of tantrums?

  • How can I help my child self-regulate and feel calm?

  • How can I balance the needs of two kids at different ages?

A Strategy Session may be all you need to discuss your questions and learn tools to address common issues in early childhood. We’ll identify effective tools and create an individualized strategy to match your child’s needs.

Amy Nasamran, Ph.D.

Hi, I’m Amy, a licensed psychologist, child behavior expert, and parent coach.

After over 15 years of working with children, I’ve developed a unique skillset and expertise in child behavior that I want to share with the most important person in a child’s life: you!

My strategy sessions are a great option for you to ask your 1-on-1 questions and get individualized support with common issues in early childhood — without waiting on a waitlist for therapy or committing to weekly appointments.

Parents who book strategy and coaching sessions with me usually have one or two specific issues they’re facing with their child and want quick access to expert tools and guidance about what they can do right away to help. Let’s equip you with the tools I know to be effective so that you can become the expert in supporting your child in these years and for years to come.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Strategy sessions are for parents of young children who are feeling stuck about what to do and how to help their child in particular situations, but who may not be looking to start weekly 1:1 therapy for their child. A strategy session can be a great way to skip or bridge the gap in the long waitlist for therapy and get recommendations about what you can do immediately. Many parents who I work with in strategy sessions and coaching have specific questions about how to help their child in 1-2 particular issues. They may be doing pretty well overall but are feeling stuck on a few things and could use an expert to help provide quick direction.

  • Strategy sessions and coaching are NOT therapy. The coaching we do in a strategy session is purely consultative in nature. Consultation is provided to you, as the parent, whereas therapy focuses on providing treatment for diagnosed mental health conditions to a patient. Coaching focuses on talking about strategies for you to address common questions in early childhood. It does not constitute a therapist-patient relationship, require a mental health diagnosis, or provide mental health treatment or therapy. My PhD and experience as a psychologist positions me to share quality information about evidence-based strategies for common childhood behaviors and issues, but treatment for a diagnosed mental health condition is not provided in coaching.

  • Live Coaching is my favorite way to work with parents. Your child will join us in live coaching sessions. Wearing an earbud or headphones, I'll have you apply the strategies we identified, and I'll coach you on exactly what to say and do to interact, support, or handle certain behaviors that come up in real-time. It's an opportunity for you to see the tools in action and get live guidance and feedback about how to apply them. Practice is the key to real learning of skills, beyond what can be done by simply reading about them.

  • Coaching isn't a covered service by insurance. My fee for a 1-time, 60-minute strategy session is $250. When paired with a 30-minute live coaching session, the fee is $325. (This first live coaching session is priced less than my standard fee for 30 minutes as a bonus and because I really believe in the value of getting live practice and personalized feedback on skill building.) Additional 30-minute live coaching sessions after your first one are $99.

  • Yes! Coaching is available from anywhere in the world with access to a stable internet connection. You do not have to live in Michigan. Strategy sessions and coaching are done using video conference.

  • A strategy session can provide direction with many of the common early childhood behaviors and issues faced by parents and children, and additional live coaching practice sessions are available as you need them. If you anticipate needing more sessions, packages are available at a reduced rate depending on the number of sessions and can be discussed prior to or at your first session. If you present issues that are outside the scope of coaching, I will refer you to more appropriate care.
