Meet Amy Nasamran, PhD, Neurodiversity Affirming Therapist based in Lansing, Michigan
Finally, someone who gets it.
When your mind works in unique ways, it can be hard to find care tailored to you.
Hi, I’m Dr. Amy Nasamran, and I’m so glad you’re here!
I’m a licensed psychologist, bestselling author, and neurodiversity-affirming therapist based in Michigan, and I specialize in working with exceptional kids and adults who think, see, and feel things a bit differently in this world.
My clients are intelligent, deep thinkers who are struggling with the pressure of wanting to do well, achieve, and fit in. I understand the unique challenges that come with having a mind like that. Constantly being “on” can lead to overthinking, stress, overwhelming emotions, anxiety, and burnout.
In my experience, the general advice out there isn’t geared towards the unique and complex ways your mind works, so it can be hard to find the right support. I’ve been there too — tired of searching for answers and life hacks in popular books or podcasts, listening to well-intentioned advice from friends and family, and even going to professionals, only to still have to figure it out yourself.
My mission as a neurodiversity-affirming therapist is to bring effective mental health care to diverse minds whose challenges aren’t always understood or visible from the outside. I work with kids and adults just like you to teach the tools I wish I had growing up. Together we’ll create your personalized map to help you gain insight about your gifts, navigate life’s challenges, manage stress and overwhelming emotions, and build habits and routines that work for you.
What it’s like to work with me
My approach as a neurodiversity affirming therapist is based on a unique combination of specialized training, lived experience, and the latest research — not outdated medical models or a one-size-fits-all approach.
Specialized Training
I have almost 20 years of experience working with neurodiverse kids and adults in schools, hospitals, community centers, research universities, and now my own practice. With training in child and career psychology, I have the unique ability to provide neurodiversity-affirming care across the lifespan.
Neurodiversity
Affirming
As a neurodiversity-affirming therapist, I don’t see brain differences as deficits or illnesses that need to be “cured” or “fixed.” We’ll work together to help you understand the unique ways your mind works and learn tools to cope, make adjustments, and navigate challenges as needed.
Personalized Care
My practice is designed to provide high-quality, deeply personalized care that you deserve and may have had trouble finding in the past. I limit the number of clients I see at a time so that all of my clients have direct access to me (no front desk or middleman coordinating our communication or your care).
Actionable Tools
My approach is more than just talk therapy. Talking can be helpful in therapy, but my goal is to equip you with effective, real-life tools that you can actually use in your life to create lasting change.
Online
I work virtually from the comfort of my home, so you get to, too! Online therapy is a convenient option that fits easily into your already busy schedule, helping you save time and eliminate the extra commute. I welcome you to get cozy, bring a snack or a blanket, or have a pet close by for moral support.

Fun Facts
I’m an introvert and Ennegram 1. When I’m not with clients, you might find me relaxing with a morning coffee, out on a walk with my dog, Aggie, at an MSU football game, struggling through a HIIT, spin, or yoga class, reading a mystery book, or watching a guilty-pleasure show on Bravo. Having a healthy work-life balance is an ongoing work in progress for me, too!
You deserve to work with someone who gets it.
Why atlas?
An atlas is a collection of maps, symbolizing that while we’re all in this together, you can be on your own unique and individual path — there’s no one map that’s right for everyone. Atlas also represents the heavy weight that many of my clients carry on their shoulders at the start of therapy. Together we’ll create your personalized map and help you put the weight down.
